Who is Esri?

Esri is the creator of ArcGIS, the gold-standard geographic information systems (GIS) mapping technology in the world. Esri provides more than 350,000 organizations — including thousands of school districts — with the ability to look at the world geographically.

Virtually every city, county, and state government agency along with most federal government agencies use Esri’s ArcGIS software to create and maintain their geographic data. That means that any data you may want to use in your planning study is available to you. Streets, county lines, local business information, land use and parcels, housing data, and countless others are all available and ready for use.

Everything is geographic. There are maps that show wildfires and fire hydrants. The spread of viruses and the spread of ideas. Maps of the past, present, and future. Maps of schools and of students. Maps teach us to ask better questions.

Think of it this way: You know your students live only by their address. But how many students live on that street, neighborhood, or zip code? How many go to the school whose boundary they live in versus transfer to another? These are just some of the questions you can only answer when you see your students on a map.
